Nature Flow Treatment Systems use ultra-violet (UV) light as a disinfection medium.

This method of treatment is not new – it is Nature’s own way of disinfection and has been used by a number of companies in their treatment plants. However, chlorine has been the preferred method of water and wastewater sterilisation due to the inability of manufacturers to overcome one problem.

UV sterilisation works by irradiating flowing water or wastewater with the correct dose of UV light. The design of all systems on the market revolves around a UV lamp, held in a quartz thimble, which is then placed inside a cylinder. Water or wastewater flows into the cylinder, around the outside of the quartz thimble where it is irradiated by UV light and passes out the other end. The problem plaguing the UV industry is the gradual fouling of the thimble, which causes a decrease in UV light transmission through the water or wastewater. This decrease in light transmission means that the UV dose rate may not be sufficient to maintain effective treatment.

Our patented self-cleaning technology overcomes this problem. Basically our technology provides a non-mechanical, self-cleaning device that ensures the thimble remains clear and thus maintain the correct UV dose rate for effective treatment.

Other companies have also tried to overcome this problem, however their methods rely on mechanical wiper or other devices made up of numerous moving parts. These methods may have some success in maintaining unimpeded UV light transmission however they require more maintenance, are higher in cost and have a greater risk of mechanical failure.

Our treatment systems provide sterilisation of water and wastewater that is effective, cost efficient, chemical free and low maintenance. Treated wastewater exceeds the Australian Standards for "recreational water" – the quality of water found in swimming pools, dams and lakes where recreational activities commonly occur and has been deemed acceptable for re-use on lawns and gardens and for re-circulating toilets.

UV treatment of drinking (potable) water provides disinfection which results in a 99% kill rate for waterborne bacteria and viruses and according to recent research also provides protection against Giardia and Cryptosporidium. Treated water is clean, clear and fresh tasting – it even removes the chlorine smell and taste of mains water supply! The bottled water market is growing, our systems provide a fantastic opportunity to redirect that growth as our water treatment systems produce water that exceeds many bottled water products on the market today.
